I always dread these calls: my son/daughter/spouse/friend was hit by a drunk or “high” driver. Or they were a passenger in a car driven by an impaired driver.
The reason I dread the calls are that these crashes are life-changing ones, and are oh-so-preventable. As I work with the injured party, I see their pain. If I am working with a loved one whose spouse or child has died, in many ways that is even worse – the person they love will never come home, ever.
I’m no longer working just as a lawyer; I’m counselor, comforter, and sometimes confidante.
Accidents are sometimes just that – accidents. But accidents when someone has chosen to drink and drive involve a choice that affects the lives of yourself or others, often permanently.
This holiday season make the choices that you will look back on fondly.
Caution: there are graphic, real scenes in this video.
